On the occasion of the field inauguration

The commencement of the “Molecular Architectonics” was approved for the New Academic Field by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research Program for FY2013.

The members of the field will thoroughly enjoy research activities, while putting their best efforts into the challenging task of creating a new academic field.

Several individuals have contributed towards and lend support to the initiation of the field. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them and also request them to continue guiding and encouraging us in the future as well.

Needless to say, we are grateful to the graduate students and staff members, who were brave enough to take on the challenge ; the research topic for such a visionary scheme was “Measuring the electrical conductivity of a single molecule”. The quantitative analysis of the electrical conductivity of a single molecule has been rendered possible by this study.

The outcome of such efforts will lead to further developments in this field. We aim to develop a new generation of molecular electronics, without any restraints or boundaries.
